Minutes of April 3, 2009

Vice President Dominga Mendoza called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.

Old Business:

Service Projects – VP Dominga Mendoza will be coordinating the following service projects. Those who would like to sign up or receive more information should contact her at vp@muomicron.org. We will not be accepting anymore volunteers after April 9^th.

Mini Workshops - President AJ Elsner wants to do something to benefit all students. Ideas for short workshops included topics of financial aid, bookstore information, enrollment and registration misconceptions, and what students need to know about San Jacinto College. Another idea for what could benefit all students was to have a school supply drive for new students.

International Convention – PTK’s International Convention will be in Grapevine, Texas

April 16 -18, 2009. The plan is to take our advisor, 4 current officers, and 5 new officers. This will be a great opportunity for new officers to gain knowledge of what an officer position entitles.

New Business:

Earth Day April 22^nd – Phi Theta Kappa would like to participate in ways to beautify and improve the campus on Earth Day. Ideas for improving the campus included sign and map improvement and general beautification. Treasurer Debbie Angwin will check our budget to see how much we can help Operation Green Team by providing recycling bins.

Benefit Dinner – PTK will be hosting a benefit dinner to raise money for a scholarship for an existing member. May 1, 2009 was selected because next week students will be studying for finals. Spaghetti or BBQ were suggested to serve. It was also discussed to sale pre-paid dinner tickets and maybe have a raffle or silent auction. We can try to get donations from the community. 

Project Graduation – Phi Theta Kappa will be at the Graduation Rehearsal May 7^th to receive donations of Books and Non-Perishable Food Items. Please bring a book and/or nonperishable food item to graduation rehearsal, so we can battle illiteracy and hunger in our community! Bins have been set up on campus to collect items throughout the month of April.

Spring Graduation – We need 4 graduating PTK members to walk with the distinguished faculty member and 8 ushers to help at the spring graduation May 8, 2009.

Meeting Times – President A.J. Elsner will be hosting a second meeting during the week on Tuesday’s at 1:30 p.m. starting April 21, 2009. There have been many requests to change the meeting time. Hopefully this will help increase attendance.
